The Joining of 4 Churches

The Joining of 4 Churches

Sunday the 13th January 2015 marked a momentous occasion for our church as we officially formed a new pastorate with Penwortham, Leyland and Fulwood URC. The day was marked by a joint service held at Kirkham URC in the afternoon where the new constitution was signed and a paper chain formed with the names of all members from the four churches. This is an exciting time and we are looking forward to working and flourishing together. Thanks to everyone who came to the service, an unforgettable day!

Ian

Happy New Year!!

Although Christmas is behind us (Nathan was asking me at the weekend while our tree was still up!) the boys were telling me this week how much they enjoyed the Christingle services they went to at Treales and Kirkham, so I thought I would keep Christmas going just a little bit longer and post a couple of photos from the service,

All the best for the new year

Happy Christmas!

DSCN7304A very happy Christmas to all at the church and our wider family in Kirkham and beyond. It has been an exciting but uncertain time at the church as we have been without a minister and entered into a  new pastorate. As we now enter the patient wait (or not so patient in the case of my children and Bella!) that lent represents and Christmas approaches I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped at the church this year. We are a small church that manages through God’s grace to be active in the community but it is the hard work of the church’s members and friends that make its activities possible. Thank you so much for all your hard work and supporting me in my role as chairman of the elders this year.

A very merry Christmas and a happy new year,

Your servant in grace,

Ian Wright

Remembrance Sunday

DSCN8422The Junior church provided A moving and thought provoking service. The names of the war dead were read out and everyone had time to contemplate the great sacrifices made both in the great war and since, both among soldiers and the civilian population. Thanks to everyone who attended, the children all enjoyed the service, especially the drinks and biscuits afterwards! It is fantastic that so many took the time to come out and remember the fallen at this special time of year.DSCN8420

Harvest time again. Time to bring in the produce!

Thanks to all that helped with the harvest festival. This year we had a wartime harvest theme and the children had a great time looking at the old farming equipment…..complete with plough!

Kirkham URC hosted the Churches Together in Kirkham and District Lent Labyrinth on 21st March 2013. It was a poignant reminder of the events leading up to Easter, and a prayerful, reflective way of traveling

the ‘Journey to Easter’. Here are some photographs of the stations.

Men’s Group

About 2 years ago some colleaugues at St Michael’s Church, Kirkham, decided that they would have an evening out. Since then they have met on the 4th Monday of each month (excluding August and December) and the number attending has risen to about 20.

They have visited a Hindu Temple, a Brewery, ‘Street Life’ in Blackpool, Fleetwood Museum, as well as talks on the ‘History of Kirkham’, ‘Mediaeval Armoury’, a slide show about Kirkham, wine tasting, and other interesting topics. They usually manage to have a meal as part of the evening, and sometimes just go to a restaurant for a social evening together.

The evenings are open to males over 18 years old and they welcome anyone who wishes to join them, even if it is just occasionally.

The meetings for the rest of 2012 are:

24th September – Indian meal ar Buraq restaurant on the main Blackpool/Preston Road.

22nd October – Talk by a retired prison officer who worked at Lancaster Gaol. (venue: Kirkham URC).

26th November – Talk by Rick Bunday about his Doctorate Thesis (venue: St Michael’s, Kirkham)

Other meetings in the pipeline are a visit to a synagogue, a visit to the illuminations warehouse, plus of course the social evenings at local restaurants.

If any man is interested please contact Allen Dearing (01772 683810).
